The well known Jenny Craig program began in 1983 in Australia and started in the U.S. in 1985.  The weight loss method is a food-mind-body plan that helps people lose weight and keep it off.

The keystone to the Jenny Craig diet is the prepackaged meals which include frozen breakfasts, lunches, dinners, and desserts too. They contain 50% to 60% carbohydrate, 20% to 25% protein, and 20% to 25% fat.  Clients supplement meals with fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and low-fat dairy products and non-starchy vegetables are unlimited.  The goal is to wean clients from the prepared meals as they become more familiar with correct portion sizes.  Counselors teach them how to cook at home and to eat out and the focus is on moderation, a balanced diet, and getting plenty of exercise. Occasional splurges are allowed for dieters to indulge themselves a bit and there is a  24/7 phone line, which lets clients to get info and support as needed. The program also offers online support, including peer-support discussion groups.

The second element after food is body and the key indicator is being physically active. Jenny Craig helps clients determine where they are now and then get to a place that will provide weight loss and also long-term maintenance, examining barriers to weight loss like being very busy, or not wanting to take away from family time. Strategies are developed to maintain physically active lifestyles. The third element of the program is mind.  Being positive and surrounding yourself with support and affirmations really helps and the difference between the client who succeeds and the one who doesn’t is the motivation mindset. We help people keep in touch with their goals and provide support every all the way, with support from other clients and talks about nurturing oneself, not necessarily with food.
